Dallas Mavericks (18-6) at Los Angeles Lakers (13-11), 10:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Dallas Mavericks attempt to extend their winning streak to four games tonight, as they stop off in Los Angeles to face the Lakers at the Staples Center.
This is the second meeting of the season between the clubs. On December 12th, Kobe Bryant scored 43 points and hit a wild go-ahead three-pointer with 34.9 seconds left to boost the Lakers to a 109-106 victory over the Mavericks at American Airlines Center. Bryant hit on 15-of-33 field goal attempts, while Lamar Odom totaled 15 points and 11 rebounds during the victory for the Lakers.
Dallas has scored over 100 points in seven of the last eight contests in this series, while Los Angeles has won three of the last four meetings. The Mavericks have won two of their last three at the Lakers.
The Mavericks play the opener of a three-game road trip. On Sunday, Josh Howard scored 23 points, pulled down seven rebounds, and keyed a fourth quarter push in Dallas' 102-95 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at American Airlines Center.
Dirk Nowitzki totaled 19 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots in the win over the Timberwolves for Dallas, while Jason Terry and Devin Harris each contributed 14 points for the Mavericks, who won for the eighth time in their last nine games.
On the injury front, Dallas guard Marquis Daniels (neck) is questionable for tonight's game. Daniels has missed two straight contests with the injury and is averaging 13.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 22 contests.
Dallas, which will also play Sacramento and Seattle on the current swing, is 8-3 on the road this season.
The Lakers play the finale of a three-game homestand. They are 1-1 on the stand. On Sunday, Tracy McGrady's layup with 0.3 seconds left boosted the shorthanded Houston Rockets to a 76-74 victory over Los Angeles at the Staples Center.
Bryant had 24 points and six assists in the loss to Houston for the Lakers, who had a three-game winning streak halted. Odom had an ineffective night for the Lakers and failed to stop McGrady on the final drive. Odom ended with three points, seven rebounds and five turnovers on just 1-of-5 shooting from the floor.
LA, which will hit the road for games against the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat after tonight's contest, is 5-6 as the host this season.
