Los Angeles Lakers (24-23) at Dallas Mavericks (37-10), 8:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Dallas Mavericks attempt to extend their winning streak to a season-high 12 games tonight, as they welcome the Los Angeles Lakers to American Airlines Center.
The Mavericks are on their longest winning streak since capturing 14 straight to open the 2002-03 campaign. They won 11 in a row from February 14, 1988 to March 4, 1988.
Dallas plays the middle contest of a three-game homestand. Josh Howard scored 23 points and added eight rebounds as the Mavericks swept their season series with the Seattle SuperSonics by recording a 110-91 victory on Saturday at American Airlines Center.
Howard led the Mavericks in scoring for the fourth straight contest, as Dallas won all three games against Seattle this season. Jason Terry added 22 points in the win for the Mavericks.
Jerry Stackhouse scored 17 points with a season-high seven assists off the bench in the win over the SuperSonics, while Dirk Nowitzki finished with 17 points and eight boards.
The Mavericks, who will host Shaquille O'Neal and the Miami Heat on Thursday, are 18-4 at home this season. They have won seven in a row at American Airlines Center.
The struggling Lakers enter tonight's contest on a three-game losing streak. They will play the sixth of a season-long seven-game road trip and are 1-4 on the current swing.
On Saturday, rookie phenom Chris Paul finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and 13 assists to lead the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets over the Lakers, 106-90, at the Ford Center.
Kobe Bryant tallied a game-high 35 points in the loss to the Hornets for the Lakers, who have lost six of their last nine games overall. The Lakers played New Orleans/Oklahoma City without forward Lamar Odom, who has missed two straight games and is averaging 14.0 points and a team-best 9.4 rebounds per contest this season.
Odom (rib) and center Chris Mihm (shoulder) are doubtful for tonight's contest.
The Lakers are 12-15 as the visitor this season.
This is the third and final meeting of the season between the clubs. The Lakers won the two previous contests, as they defeated the Mavericks on December 12th at American Airlines Center and on December 20th at the Staples Center.
The Lakers have won four of the last five meetings in this series. The Lakers have won two straight after losing their last two at Dallas.
