NBA Preview from The Sports Network
Tuesday, April 18th (All times eastern)
Los Angeles Clippers (46-34) at Memphis Grizzlies (47-33), 8 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies can clinch the fifth spot in the Western Conference with a win tonight, as they welcome the Los Angeles Clippers to the FedExForum.
Memphis leads the sixth-seeded Clippers by one game in the Western Conference playoff race. Both teams have two games left on their schedules.
A Grizzlies victory would give them the fourth-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the opening round of the postseason, while the Clippers, who would be No. 6 if they lose, would face No. 3 Denver. The Clippers would also have homecourt advantage in the best-of-seven series because they would have a better record than the Northwest Division-champion Nuggets.
The Grizzlies enter tonight's game on a three-game losing streak. Mike Miller totaled 25 points to lead Memphis past the Houston Rockets, 93-81, on Saturday at the Toyota Center.
All-Star Pau Gasol finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the win over the Rockets for Memphis, which has won six of its last seven games overall. Shane Battier contributed 19 points and Chucky Atkins scored 11 in the victory.
Memphis, which wraps up is regular season on Wednesday at Minnesota, is 29-11 as the host this season. The Grizzlies have won four in a row at the FedExForum.
The Clippers attempt to get back on the winning track. On Sunday, Ray Allen ended with 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists to lead the Seattle SuperSonics over the Clippers, 114-98, at the Staples Center.
Elton Brand led all scorers with 22 points and also pulled down seven rebounds, while Shaun Livingston scored 18 off the bench in the loss to Seattle for the Clippers, who have dropped four of their last six games overall. Veteran Sam Cassell totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in defeat.
LA is 19-20 as the visitor this season. The Clippers end their regular season on Wednesday at Dallas.
Memphis has won two of the three meetings between the clubs this season.
The Clippers have lost eight of their last 10 at the Grizzlies.
