Los Angeles Lakers (24-22) at New Jersey Nets (21-27), 7:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Lakers try to snap a three-game losing slide tonight when they travel to the Meadowlands to take on the New Jersey Nets.
Los Angeles, still without the injured Kobe Bryant and a permanent head coach, has fallen to San Antonio, Houston and Atlanta during the current skid. On Monday the Lakers dropped a 114-108 contest to the Hawks in the second portion of a five-game road trip.
The Lakers were led by Lamar Odom, who dropped 28 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Tierre Brown came off the bench to record a career-high 27 points, Chucky Atkins netted 25 points and Brian Cook had 13 as a reserve for LA.
Los Angeles is 0-3 since Rudy Tomjanovich stepped down as head coach due to health reasons. Interim coach Frank Hamblen is at the helm in the meantime. Without Bryant, who is expected to be out past the All-Star break due to a sprained ankle, the Lakers are 5-7.
Los Angeles, which has lost four of its last five on the road, will visit Detroit for a Finals rematch on Thursday.
New Jersey, meanwhile, has won two straight games, and six of the last seven overall. On Monday, Vince Carter scored a season-high 43 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Jason Kidd posted a triple-double with 22 points, 16 assists and 11 boards to lead the Nets to a 107-97 overtime victory over the 76ers at the Meadowlands.
Carter ended 14-of-32 from the field, including 7-of-16 from three-point range, and became the 41st NBA player to reach 10,000 points. The former Raptor, who had 41 points in Saturday's victory over Detroit, became the first Nets player to post back-to-back 40-plus points since John Williamson did it during the 1978 season
Ron Mercer contributed a season-high 14 points, including six in overtime, for the Nets. New Jersey finished 12-of-32 from beyond the arc and set a team record for attempts from three-point range.
The Nets, who have won five straight at home, will host San Antonio on Friday.
New Jersey defeated LA, 109-103, on January 28 at the Staples Center to snap a two-game series losing streak.
