(Sports Network) - The Boston Celtics start a brief two-game road trip, as they visit the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves for an afternoon contest at the Target Center.
This is the first meeting of the season between the clubs. The Celtics are scheduled to host the Timberwolves on March 6th at the FleetCenter in the final contest of the season between the teams.
Boston has won four of five and five of the last seven meetings in this series. The Celtics have won four straight after losing their last three at Minnesota.
The Celtics, who will visit the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday before returning home for four games, come into today's contest on a two-game winning streak. On Friday, Raef LaFrentz had 19 points and Paul Pierce added 18 to lead Boston to a 112-100 win over the Orlando Magic at the FleetCenter.
Gary Payton recorded 17 points and eight assists in Friday's win for the Celtics, who have won five of their last seven overall and remain in first place in the Atlantic Division with a 1/2 game lead over the Philadelphia 76ers. Ricky Davis tallied 16 points and Mark Blount netted 13 against the Magic.
Boston is just 7-16 on the road this season. The Celtics have won two in a row as the visitor.
The Timberwolves have lost four straight games. On Friday, Tracy McGrady had 18 of his 40 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, as the Houston Rockets won their third straight game, 119-113 over Minnesota at the Target Center.
Sam Cassell had 24 points and 11 assists for the Timberwolves, who have lost six of their last 11 overall. Kevin Garnett contributed 22 points, 14 rebounds and five assists for Minnesota, which is 13-11 at the Target Center this season.
Garnett has scored in double-digits in all 47 of Minnesota's games this season. He has recorded 42 double-doubles.
