Toronto Raptors (7-10) at Boston Celtics (6-8), 7:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Boston Celtics try for their third straight win this evening when they host the Toronto Raptors at the FleetCenter.
On Wednesday, Paul Pierce scored a team-high 23 points and Mark Blount added 16 points with 16 rebounds as Boston hung on to beat Milwaukee, 101-100, at home.
Raef LaFrentz chipped in with 14 points and Ricky Davis came off the bench to contribute 12 for the Celtics, whose winning streak comes on the heels of a four-game slide. Gary Payton, honored before the game for reaching the 20,000 point plateau, collected 10 points with six assists in the win.
Pierce, who had a brief shouting match with head coach Doc Rivers, has scored 20 or more points in 10 of Boston's 14 games this season and leads the team in scoring (22.7 ppg) and rebounding (7.3 rpg). He is also five boards shy of 3,000 for his career.
Elsewhere on the milestone watch, forward Walter McCarty will be playing in his 500th game tonight, He is also four three-pointers shy of 400 for his career.
Boston, which will hit the road for five games following tonight's tilt, is 4-4 at home this season.
Toronto, meanwhile, continued its early-season struggles on Wednesday, as the Raptors dropped a 129-108 decision to the Orlando Magic at the TD Waterhouse Centre.
Vince Carter led Toronto with 21 points. Rafer Alston had 16 points and Jalen Rose chipped in 15 for the Raptors, who have dropped nine of their last 12 contests.
Toronto, which is in the midst of a six-game road trip, is just 2-8 away from home this season.
The Celtics took three of their four matchups with the Raptors last season, but is just 6-8 against them in the last 14 meetings. Toronto, though, has lost three straight and four of its last five in Boston.
