Minnesota Timberwolves (1-1) at Memphis Grizzlies (1-1), 8 p.m.
(Sports Network) - A pair of Western Conference also-rans get together tonight at FedEx Forum, where the Memphis Grizzlies will play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Memphis lost at home to Atlanta to start the new season, then responded with Friday's 91-90 victory over the tough Dallas Mavericks on the road.
Rudy Gay scored 21 points and O.J. Mayo added 20 for the Grizzlies, who got a big night from Marc Gasol. Gasol missed the loss to the Hawks with a sprained ankle and registered 10 points and 15 boards in a winning effort.
"I just felt like my teammates really needed me. I am not 100-percent, but I knew I could do something and help them out and just be there for us," Gasol said of gutting out the injury. "We are pretty pumped up."
Darrell Arthur netted 14 points for the Grizz. Forward Zach Randolph could miss Saturday's game and did not play last night because of lower back injury suffered against Atlanta.
Just like Memphis, the Timberwolves lost their season opener versus Sacramento and were able to bounce back with Friday's 96-85 triumph over the Milwaukee Bucks at home. Now they're hitting the road for the first time.
In the 11-point victory over the visiting Bucks, newcomer Michael Beasley had 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Kevin Love contributed a double-double as well with 17 points and 16 boards.
"We ended up getting the job done. We were happy about the first win," Love said.
Luke Ridnour chipped in 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds for Minnesota, which owned the glass by an amazing 62-39 difference.
The T'Wolves will open a three-game road trip tonight against the Grizzlies, Heat and Magic. They were only 5-36 away from the Twin Cities a year ago.
Memphis took three of four matchups with Minnesota a season ago after the Timberwolves won all three meetings in 2008-09.
