NBA Preview from The Sports Network
Thursday, December 3rd (All times eastern)
Miami Heat (10-7) at Denver Nuggets (13-5), 10:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - Two of the NBA's top young stars square off this evening, as Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat pay a visit to Carmelo Anthony's Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center.
The Northwest Division-leading Nuggets will conclude a four-game homestand and are 2-1 on the residency following Tuesday's 135-107 victory over the Golden State Warriors. Anthony led the way with 25 points and seven rebounds, while Chauncey Billups recorded 22 points and eight assists for Denver, which rebounded from a 106-100 loss to the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves.
"We came in with a defensive mindset, saying these guys are explosive," Billups said. "We've got to get stops. Let's get to the basket and get layups. We tried to stop them from running. We did all those things."
Denver is 8-1 in the Rockies this season. Anthony leads the NBA in scoring with 30.7 points per game.
Wade, who is sixth in the league with 26.8 ppg, had 22 points and 12 assists in Miami's 107-100 win at Portland on Tuesday. Michael Beasley led the team with 27 points and Quentin Richardson contributed 20 and nine rebounds for the Heat, who ended a two-game slide and kicked off a four-game road trip on a positive note.
"My teammates were making shots -- when they're doing that, I want to make the game easy for us," said Wade. "It was a team effort on the road against a very good team."
The Heat will also visit the Lakers and Kings on the swing and are 4-2 away from south Florida this season.
Miami defeated Denver, 96-88, earlier last month at AmericanAirlines Arena thanks to Wade's 22 points. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak in the series for the Heat, who are winless in their last seven trips to the Rocky Mountains.
