NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Sunday, January 4th (All times eastern)

Boston Celtics (29-5) at New York Knicks (12-19), 6:00 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Atlantic Division rivals meet Sunday when the reigning NBA world champion Boston Celtics invade Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Knicks.

Paul Pierce scored a game-high 26 points, as the Celtics returned from a disappointing road trip to rout the Washington Wizards, 108-83, at TD Banknorth Garden on Friday.

The Celtics went just 1-3 on a their recent four-game west coast trek, accounting for 60 percent of the team's losses this season. But Boston dominated Friday's contest in wire-to-wire fashion, as Rajon Rondo added 10 points and 14 assists, and Kevin Garnett had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Ray Allen posted 11 points and six assists in the Celtics' 13th straight home win.

The Knicks, meanwhile, lost for the seventh time in eight tries Friday when Jarrett Jack had a season-high 29 points -- and hit the game-winning shot with 0.9 seconds left -- as the Indiana Pacers edged New York, 105-103, at Madison Square Garden.

David Lee had 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Knicks, who fell to 7-8 this year at MSG. Al Harrington added 27 points, while Wilson Chandler ended with 13 in the loss.

The Celtics, who are 11-4 as the visitor this year, have won eight straight and nine of their last 10 against the Knicks. Boston has also won six straight over New York at MSG.
