Houston Rockets (41-25) at Philadelphia 76ers (26-40), 6 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers wrap a three-game homestand this
evening when they welcome the Houston Rockets to the Wachovia Center.
Philadelphia has split the first two games of the stand so far. The Sixers
were bested by Chicago in the opener before recording an exciting 89-88 win
over Utah on Friday.
With the Sixers trailing by a point, Kyle Korver found himself wide open for
an 18-foot jumper from the left baseline. The shot was true and the Sixers
were on top with 5.1 ticks left.
Utah's Deron Williams tried to win it with a long three from the left wing but
his shot was off and the Sixers held on for the exciting victory.
Andre Iguodala scored 23 points, pulled down nine rebounds and had four steals
for the Sixers, who snapped a two-game skid and have won eight of their past
10 games. Samuel Dalembert added 17 points and seven boards, while Andre
Miller finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Philadelphia is 17-16 as the host this season, having won eight of it last
nine at the Wachovia Center, and are four games out of the eighth and final
playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The club is in Detroit on Tuesday.
Houston, meanwhile, won for the fifth time in six games after besting Toronto,
114-100, on Friday.
The Rockets used a triple-threat of Tracy McGrady, Rafer Alston and Yao Ming
to claim victory. McGrady totaled 24 points and seven assists, Alston had 23
points, eight boards and nine assists before fouling out, and Yao contributed
23 points and 12 rebounds for Houston, which is firmly in the fifth spot in
the Western Conference playoff race.
Houston is 18-15 as the visitor this season. The club returns home for a pair
of games, beginning on Tuesday against Indiana.
Houston won the first of the two meetings this season with Philadelphia back
on January 29. McGrady had 25 points in the decisive 105-84 victory. The
Rockets have won eight of their last nine against the 76ers, including four
straight in Philadelphia.
