NBA Game Summary - Minnesota at San Antonio

(Friday, March 28th)

Final Score: San Antonio 99, Minnesota 84

San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Manu Ginobili scored 26 points, including 5-of-8 shooting from behind the arc, to lead the San Antonio Spurs in a 99-84 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Tony Parker added 18 points and eight assists for the Spurs, who have won six in a row and moved into a tie with the Hornets for the top spot in the Western Conference. The Lakers are a game behind the two teams for the top spot. Michael Finley added 16 points and Tim Duncan had 12 and 14 rebounds for the victors.

Ryan Gomes tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds for the T'Wolves, who have dropped two in a row overall and three of four. Al Jefferson gave 14 points and Rashad McCants 13 off the bench. Randy Foye and Marko Jaric each totaled 11 points, while Craig Smith had 10.

Back-to-back threes from Ginobili closed out a 9-0 San Antonio run that gave the Spurs an 83-70 lead with about 7 1/2 minutes left in regulation.

Moments later, Ginobili connected on another three-point attempt to put the Spurs up by 16 and extinguish any thoughts Minnesota had of an upset.

"I'm tired of seeing him," Minnesota head coach Randy Wittman said of Ginobili. "He came in shooting over 70 percent from three-point land against us and he was 5-of-8 tonight."

The T'Wolves held a 17-14 lead after 12 minutes of basketball.

The Spurs bounced back and outscored the T'Wolves 35-17 in the second quarter and took a 49-34 lead at the break.

A Fabricio Oberto jumper and two layups from Finley opened a 20-point lead, 57-37, for San Antonio with 8:39 remaining in the third frame.

Minnesota outscored San Antonio 25-11 to close out the third, and the surge brought the T'Wolves as close as 68-62 heading into the final 12 minutes of play.

"It was a good effort," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. "We got to play a lot of guys. Hopefully we can get some rest and persevere in this tough month."
