Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Roger Mason scored 17 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter as Washington rallied to beat Seattle, 104-99, at KeyArena.
Mason buried five three-pointers in the final frame for the Wizards, who won for the fourth time in five games and remained one-half game ahead of Philadelphia for the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Sixers routed Chicago, 121-99, earlier Wednesday.
Caron Butler added 21 points and nine assists for Washington, while Antawn Jamison chipped in with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
"We rebounded better and we got some deflections in the fourth quarter which helped us out a lot," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said.
Rookie star Kevin Durant poured in 32 points and added seven boards for the Sonics, who have lost 12 of 13 games. Fellow rookie Jeff Green and Damien Wilkins both had 13 points apiece.
"We probably had some guys get fatigued," Sonics coach P. J. Carlesimo said. "They are a good basketball team and you feel they are always going to make a run."
Washington trailed by seven points entering the final frame but quickly chipped away. After Green made a pair of free throws to give the Sonics an 84-80 edge, the Wizards ripped off a 10-0 run to seize control of the contest.
Mason fueled the push by stroking a three and then capped it with another trey to make it a 90-84 game with 6:19 on the clock.
Washington continued to hold the Sonics at arm's length from there and extended its lead to eight, 99-91, after Jamison connected on a jumper with just over three minutes left.
Seattle never covered from there.
The Wizards eased out to a 29-23 lead after the opening quarter but Seattle bounced back with a dominating second quarter to take a 56-50 edge by halftime.
The Sonics then continued to play frontrunner through three quarters, 75-68.
