NBA Game Summary - Charlotte at Cleveland
(Sunday, March 16th)
Final Score: Cleveland 98, Charlotte 91
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - LeBron James had 33 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Charlotte Bobcats, 98-91, at Quicken Loans Arena.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas finished with 16 points and nine boards for the Cavs, who snapped a brief two-game losing streak and won for a seventh straight time at home.
"I thought defensively we did a solid job," said Cleveland coach Mike Brown. "Jason Richardson obviously is a tough cover. Hes a terrific, terrific offensive player. I thought overall we did a nice job rebounding the basketball."
Jason Richardson scored 33 points and Raymond Felton had 14 points and nine assists for the Bobcats, who have lost three in row since their five-game winning streak. Emeka Okafor added 10 points and 12 rebounds for Charlotte.
Trailing 88-80 with 3:12 left, Charlotte fought back. After an Okafor dunk, Richardson scored nine straight points for the Bobcats, including consecutive three pointers that eventually cut the Cavs lead to 92-91 with 1:08 remaining.
Delonte West then drilled a jumper with 52 seconds left to put Cleveland up 94-91. On the other end, Richardson was forced to drive baseline by James and had his shot blocked by Ben Wallace. James then hit a driving layup with 10 seconds showing on the clock, sealing the win for Cleveland.
"Like coach (Bobcats coach Sam Vincent) said, it was a little too little, too late," said Richardson. "Defense gets a little more aggressive in the last eight minutes of the fourth quarter and we often come out every night and start the game like that, but we didn't do that tonight."
The Cavs finished the first quarter on an 11-2 run to take a 27-19 lead after the opening 12 minutes. James scored all 11 points in the surge.
The Bobcats, though, went on an 11-2 run of their own to begin the second quarter. Gerald Wallace's driving layup with 9:26 left in the stanza gave Charlotte a 30-29 lead.
Later in the second, Cleveland scored 12 straight points to take a 47-36 lead with 1:12 left until the half. The Cavs led 47-40 at the break.
Devin Brown's alley-oop dunk with 3:00 to go in the third quarter gave Cleveland its biggest lead at 69-56. The Cavs led 75-63 heading into the fourth quarter.
