NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at LA Lakers

(Tuesday, February 19th)

Final Score: LA Lakers 122, Atlanta 93

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol both scored 23 points as the Los Angeles Lakers trounced the Atlanta Hawks, 122-93, at the Staples Center in the first game back for both clubs after the All-Star break.

Bryant played his first regular-season game since it was revealed he had a torn ligament on the small finger of his right hand.

Lamar Odom added 17 points to go along with 15 rebounds for the Lakers, who have won five straight and eight of their last nine, and improved to 18-7 as the host this season. Vladimir Radmanovic ended with 14 points, Jordan Farmar added 12 points off the bench and Derek Fisher chipped in 10 in the win.

"I'm excited and honored to be here," said Gasol. "We got a nice lead early and then blew them out by halftime. My style seems to fit in better here than in Memphis, but when it gets down to it, it's all about playing basketball and I can do that."

Joe Johnson had a team-high 18 points for the Hawks, who were fresh off a big trade on Saturday in which they acquired point guard Mike Bibby from Sacramento in exchange for guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue, forward Shelden Williams, center Lorenzen Wright and a second-round pick in the 2008 draft.

Atlanta, however, lost its fifth straight overall and dropped to 6-18 on the road this season. Bibby also injured his right ankle with 9:33 left in the third quarter and sat the rest of the contest.

"In the first half I thought we were still on All-Star break," said Atlanta head coach Mike Woodson. "They came out and hit us early. We played better in the second half, we just didn't compete in the first half."

The Lakers completely dominated every facet of play from the opening tip, as they rolled out to a 12-4 lead and never looked back. The Hawks couldn't get closer than a point, 13-12, before the home squad reeled off 19 of the final 21 points in the stanza.

Gasol had eight points during the spurt, while Bryant's driving layup gave the Lakers a 32-14 edge heading to the second quarter.

The Hawks were outscored 41-23 over the next 12 minutes, as the Lakers put the game well out of reach.

Los Angeles was up 73-37 at the break, with four players in double figures and at least one with a double-double. Bryant led the way with 19 points, while Gasol followed him with 17 to that point. Radmanovic also had 12 and Odom chipped in with 10, to go along with 12 rebounds.

The offensive showcase saw the Lakers shoot at a 54.2 percent clip (26-of-48), including 27 points off turnovers. They were 19-of-21 from the free throw line, and dominant on the glass to the tune of 27-16 by intermission.

Fisher joined all Lakers starters in double-digits when he drained a three- point jumper with about six minutes left in the third.

It was 97-69 heading to the fourth, and the Lakers coasted to the final buzzer.
