NBA Game Summary - Portland at Minnesota

(Tuesday, March 11th)

Final Score: Portland 103, Minnesota 96

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Brandon Roy scored 27 points and dished out nine assists as Portland edged Minnesota, 103-96, at the Target Center.

LaMarcus Aldridge added 20 points for the Trail Blazers, who have won three of their last four games. Martell Webster and James Jones both chipped in with 13 points apiece.

Al Jefferson had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who were attempting to win a third straight game for the first time this season. Rashad McCants finished with 18 points and Ryan Gomes pitched in with 16.

"We want to win. We don't want to just stay in games," Gomes said. "We played them well and at the end of the game they put together some good shots."

The Timberwolves held a precarious two-point advantage entering the fourth quarter and their margin for error remained razor-close as things headed toward the stretch.

Jefferson's running jumper gave the 'Wolves a 92-91 edge with 4:05 remaining.

Both teams went cold from there until Roy deposited a pretty floater to put Portland in front, 93-92, with just 2:20 left on the clock.

After Gomes missed a jumper at the other end, Roy went to the free throw line and connected on 1-of-2 to extend the Blazers lead to 94-92 with 1:44 remaining.

Randy Foye had a chance to deadlock things but his runner was blocked by Joel Przybilla. Jones took full advantage by stroking a three from the right wing to make it a 97-92 game with just 80 seconds left.

The Blazers then hit enough free throws in the waning seconds to secure things.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game," Roy noted. "Minnesota came in playing better basketball but we hung in there in the fourth quarter and did a good job executing and it was one of our best quarters defensively."

The teams were deadlocked at 26-26 after the opening 12 minutes and things remained close through the second quarter with the 'Wolves taking a 54-50 lead into the locker room.

Gomes' three from the right corner with 4.6 seconds left in the third quarter made sure Minnesota was on top, 79-77, heading to the final frame.
