NBA Game Summary - Memphis at Miami
(Friday, April 11th)
Final Score: Memphis 96, Miami 91
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Kyle Lowry and Hakim Warrick each scored 17 points to lead the Memphis Grizzlies in a 96-91 victory over the dismal Miami Heat.
Mike Conley and Juan Carlos Navarro both ended with 15 points for the Grizzlies, who have alternated wins and losses for the last six contests. Rudy Gay added 14 points and Casey Jacobsen 10.
Earl Barron set a career high with 22 points for the Heat, who have lost eight of nine and clinched the league's worst record. Ricky Davis totaled 17 points, while Chris Quinn had 14 and eight assists. Daequan Cook and Kasib Powell both gave 11 points.
Memphis jumped out to a 31-23 lead after the first stanza, and extended its lead to 58-43 at the half.
"I thought we played hard in the second half, but in the first half we got behind by too much," Quinn said. "It's tough to come back like that."
A Davis three-pointer sparked a 10-2 Heat run. The surge brought Miami within 60-53 as Quinn closed out the scoring with a layup with 9:22 left in the third quarter.
The teams traded baskets until two free throws apiece from Barron and Davis brought the Heat as close as 74-69 heading into the final 12 minutes of play.
Memphis began the fourth with nine unanswered points en route to an 83-69 cushion.
After exchanging buckets, a Powell three and shots from Mark Blount and Stephane Lasme made it 92-88 with just under 2 1/2 minutes left in regulation. However, Gay answered with a hook shot for the six-point lead and Miami never got closer than the final deficit.
"We want to use these games to try to click and get together as much as we can," Warrick said. "It is a new system with a lot of new players, and we are still jelling and still plan on getting better and will continue to get better."
