NBA Game Summary - Boston at Memphis

(Saturday, March 8th)

Final Score: Boston 119, Memphis 89

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Ray Allen scored 23 points, leading five players in double figures, as Boston destroyed Memphis, 119-89, for its eighth consecutive win.

Paul Pierce added 19 points and Kevin Garnett ended with 17 for the Celtics, who have already clinched a playoff spot. Garnett came in seven points shy of 20,000 for his career, and has become the 32nd player in NBA history to reach that milestone.

James Posey donated 15 points off the bench, and Kendrick Perkins rounded out double-digit scorers with 13 points for Boston, which gave ample time to its reserves in the blowout.

Hakim Warrick led the way with 15 points for Memphis, which was attempting to win back-to-back games for just the second time this season. The Grizzlies, who have the NBA's third-worst record, snapped a nine-game losing streak Wednesday with a 100-93 win over New Jersey.

The game was never in doubt from the opening tip, as Boston reeled off the first seven points as part of a 12-2 run. Warrick answered with a jumper for Memphis, but the Celtics continued to pour it on.

Boston's lead was 37-20 at the end of the first quarter, and the Grizzlies barely closed the gap in the second.

The Celtics held a 51-37 advantage at the break, despite shooting just 6- of-15 from beyond the arc.

The visitors opened the third quarter on a 15-6 run, upping the lead to 66-43, it was 91-65 heading to the fourth, as Boston closed with a pair of three- point shots from Posey and Allen.

The Celtics cruised from there, and ended 15-of-30 from three-point range. They also hauled in 45 rebounds, while Memphis managed 31.
