NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Houston

(Saturday, February 9th)

Final Score: Houston 108, Atlanta 89

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Yao Ming scored 28 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Houston Rockets past the Atlanta Hawks, 108-89, at Toyota Center.

Tracy McGrady had 15 points and eight assists for the Rockets, who have won six in a row and 15 of their last 18 overall. Luis Scola contributed 14 points and nine rebounds, and Bonzi Wells gave 11 points and six assists.

Josh Childress netted 18 points for the Hawks, who have lost two straight. The Hawks have also dropped nine straight and 15-of-16 at Houston. Zaza Pachulia gave 11 points and nine rebounds

Al Horford had eight points to match his eight rebounds in defeat.

The Rockets held a 31-21 lead after 12 minutes of play. After outscoring the Hawks 25-10 in the second quarter, Houston was up 56-31 at the break and never looked back.

Atlanta connected on only 4-of-23 field goals in the second quarter.

"Our energy level to start the game was not there," Atlanta head coach Mike Woodson said. "You can't come out on the road and compete at a high level and try to win ball games starting games like that."

The Rockets held a 20-point lead just past the midway point of the third quarter, until McGrady hit a pair of free throws that served as the catalyst for a 14-2 Houston run.

Yao had two dunks and two foul shots on the surge and a Wells layup capped it off with 1:34 remaining. The spree gave the Rockets an 81-49 advantage.

After Yao missed on a layup, Carl Landry tipped it in as time expired to give the Rockets an 88-55 lead heading into the final 12 minutes of play.

Two Acie Law free throws with 8:52 left pulled the Hawks to within 28 points, 93-65, but Atlanta would never draw closer than 19 the rest of the way.

"We kept trying to push them out, as far out as we could," Yao said. "When they don't have an inside game, it allows our defense to rotate even better and rebound."
