NBA Game Summary - Portland at Indiana

(Saturday, February 9th)

Final Score: Indiana 101, Portland 93

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Danny Granger scored 29 points to lead Indiana to a 101-93 victory over the shorthanded Portland Trail Blazers.

Travis Diener added 15 points and nine assists for the Pacers, who beat Portland for the ninth straight time. Troy Murphy tallied 13 points and eight rebounds, and Mike Dunleavy ended with 11 points.

Indiana also got solid performances from Jeff Foster and Kareem Rush. Foster had 10 points and 14 rebounds, while Rush contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Pacers, winners of back-to-back contests after a seven-game slide, shot just 10-of-33 from three-point range, but Granger was 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Indiana won consecutive games for the first time since capturing three in a row, Dec. 15-19.

"We took better care of the basketball and defended much, much better," Rush said. "The next two games (vs. Boston, at Detroit) will really be a gauge for us. We've got two top teams and we've got to get at them from the get go."

LaMarcus Aldridge ended with 21 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out for the Trail Blazers, who lost their second straight on a four-game road trip. Brandon Roy, Portland's leading scorer at 19.7 points per game, was out a second straight contest due to a death in his family.

Martell Webster's jumper to start the second quarter cut Portland's deficit to 51-50, but the Pacers scored the next six, capped by two Murphy foul shots. Indiana led by as many as 11 later in the period before going into the fourth with a 71-63 cushion.

Granger scored five in a row during the early stages of the fourth, stretching Indiana's advantage to 85-72 with 7:54 remaining.

The closest the Blazers got was six, as Travis Outlaw's jumper made it 99-93 with 57 seconds left.

Webster finished with 18 points and Outlaw 15, while Jarrett Jack had 15 points and 10 assists for Portland. Channing Frye scored 14 points for the Blazers.

"We dug ourselves a hole and they are a very capable team from the perimeter," Jack said. "It seemed like the ball was bouncing their way all night. A lot of loose balls and rebounds seemed to go right to their shooters."

Portland scored eight of the game's first nine points, but the Pacers responded with seven straight points and the game was tied at 20 going into the second. Neither team led by more than five in the second quarter.
