NBA Game Summary - Chicago at Miami

(Tuesday, April 8th)

Final Score: Miami 95, Chicago 88

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Kasib Powell, who signed a 10-day contract with the Heat before the game, scored a career-high 18 points as Miami picked up a come-from-behind 95-88 victory over the Chicago Bulls.

Chris Quinn and Ricky Davis each deposited 16 points to help the Heat snap a seven-game losing streak. Davis also led Miami with eight rebounds, while Earl Barron and Mark Blount tallied 13 points apiece.

The deflating loss eliminated Chicago from the playoff race.

Luol Deng led the Bulls with 25 points, and Joakim Noah recorded a double- double with 16 points and 13 boards. Ben Gordon added 16 points of his own in the Bulls' fifth loss in their last seven games.

"We just came out and walked through the motions," Deng said. "I don't think we really played to win. The intensity wasn't there. We just played and we were just playing a team that hasn't done so well and we haven't done well, and they came out and we basically did what we've been doing."

Two free throws by Noah at the 8:33 mark of the third put the Bulls ahead, 59-48 and it seemed like another contest in South Beach was about to get out of hand.

However, Miami responded with a 12-0 run capped by consecutive three-pointers from Powell and Davis, and the Heat suddenly lead, 60-59.

After several exchanges of the lead, a Joel Anthony tip-in at the third quarter buzzer pushed Miami ahead, 69-67, with 12 minutes left to play.

Miami maintained the lead the rest of the way, as a Daequan Cook mid-range jumper at the halfway point gave the Heat their biggest lead up to that point at 84-73.

On the Heat's next possession, Jason Williams found Cook again, who calmly hit an open three-pointer during a game-altering 16-5 spurt.

Chicago got as close as nine with a little over a minute left, but the Heat held on for the rare win.

"In the second half we played extremely hard," Heat coach Pat Riley said. "I mean extremely hard. Basically because of that, you didn't have to be as efficient. If you're playing hard sometimes you can make mistakes and still end up with possessions."

Miami shot just 1-of-12 from three-point range in the first half, but Chicago committed 10 turnovers to keep the game close. Deng carried the Bulls with 19 points and Chicago led 49-43 at the break.
