NBA Game Summary - Phoenix at Portland

Final Score: Phoenix 97, Portland 92

Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Amare Stoudemire scored 22 points and Steve Nash added 19 as the Phoenix Suns held off the Portland Trail Blazers, 97-92, at the Rose Garden.

Grant Hill scored 18 points and Boris Diaw added 14 for the Suns, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Shaquille O'Neal had six points and 13 rebounds for Phoenix.

Brandon Roy scored 25 points and Travis Outlaw had 14 for the Trail Blazers, who have dropped five of their last seven. LaMarcus Aldridge, Jarrett Jack and Channing Frye added 11 points each for Portland.

Stoudemire's jumper with 10:14 left in the third quarter gave the Suns a 64-41 lead. Portland, though, fought back outscoring Phoenix 30-15 the rest of the quarter to pull within 79-71 heading into the fourth.

The Trail Blazers continued to cut the deficit early in the final frame. Joel Przybilla's layup with 7:41 left pulled Portland within 83-81.

Later in the frame, Stoudemire's two free throws with 41 seconds remaining gave the Suns a 91-87 lead. Portland then seemingly pulled back to within two points when Roy's layup attempt was tipped in by Frye, but the basket was waved off for offensive goaltending.

Phoenix made all six of its free throws the rest of the way to hold off the Trail Blazers.

The Suns were hot early as Stoudemire's high-flying dunk over Przybilla with 8:09 left in the opening quarter gave Phoenix a 12-5 lead. The Suns led 29-20 heading into the second.

Raja Bell's jumper with 4:45 left in the second extended Phoenix's lead to 51-30. The Suns took a 60-41 lead into the locker rooms.

Game Notes

Earlier in the day the Suns announced they had signed guard Gordan Giricek through the remainder of the season. He scored two points in just under seven minutes...Both teams shot 41 percent...The Suns are 3-4 since acquiring O'Neal...Phoenix has won seven in a row in the series...The Suns have won four straight and six of their last seven at Portland.
