NBA Game Summary - Memphis at Chicago

(Tuesday, March 4th)

Final Score: Chicago 112, Memphis 97

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Drew Gooden scored 21 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked three shots to lead the Chicago Bulls in a 112-97 victory over the woeful Memphis Grizzlies at United Center.

Luol Deng also poured in 21 points and pulled down nine boards for the Bulls, who snapped a two-game skid. Andres Nocioni tallied 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while Kirk Hinrich ended with 19 points and 12 helpers. Ben Gordon added 16 points in the win.

Kyle Lowry dropped a career-high 24 points for Memphis, which lost its ninth consecutive game. Darko Milicic tied a career-high with 21 points, Rudy Gay chipped in 21 points and Javaris Crittenton had 17 points in the loss.

"Tonight was a good night," Lowry said. "I got some layups and got some free throws. My teammates set me up, everyone was running with me. They gave me the opportunity to get in the lane, draw contact and get to the line."

For the better part of the fourth quarter, Chicago's lead hovered around 16 points, and a pair of Nocioni free throws gave the Bulls a 100-82 lead with 7:12 left in regulation.

Memphis wouldn't get within 11 points the rest of the way.

The Grizzlies were eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.

The Bulls were up 22-16 after the first stanza.

After a 13-0 run, the Bulls held a 54-36 advantage at the break. Hinrich's layup served as the catalyst for the second-period surge, and two Deng free throws capped it.

After the intermission, two Gooden dunks set the tone for 10 unanswered Chicago points. Joakim Noah also had a dunk, while Larry Hughes and Hinrich both added a bucket for a 69-39 lead with 7:06 to go in the third.

However, the Grizzlies responded with a 23-6 run to pull within 13, 75-62. Gay's three-pointer started the run, and a Lowry-to-Gay alley-oop dunk closed it out with just over two minutes left in the third.

"This is the NBA so you expect they're going to make a run," Hinrich said. "We did a better job tonight answering when they did make the run."

A Nocioni dunk with 9.8 ticks left sent the Bulls into the final 12 minutes of play leading 83-67.
