NBA Game Summary - New Orleans at Utah

(Monday, February 4th)

Final Score: Utah 110, New Orleans 88

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Deron Williams scored a game-high 29 points and doled out 11 assists to lead the Utah Jazz to their ninth straight victory, 110-88 over the New Orleans Hornets.

Kyle Korver scored 20 points off the bench, including a 6-of-8 performance from behind the arc for the Jazz, who have won 11 in a row at home. Utah made a team-record 14 three-pointers (14-of-22).

"He caught the ball and made shots," Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan said of Korver. "When he's making shots like that I thought each one of them was counted as a hundred points, but I looked at the scoreboard and they only counted three. Our fans loved it and its really exciting for our fans. So, I can live with it."

Ronnie Brewer had 11 points for the Jazz, who are on their longest overall winning streak since the 1999-00 season when they also won nine in a row. Carlos Boozer added 19 points and 17 boards, while Mehmet Okur tallied 14 points.

Jannero Pargo scored 24 points for the Hornets, who have dropped three in a row since a nine-game winning streak. Morris Peterson chipped in 16 points, and Peja Stojakovic and David West each gave 12 points.

Utah held a 21-20 lead after 12 minutes of play and a three-point barrage ensued in the second for the Jazz. Korver hit four straight from beyond the arc, and Utah's first 18 points of the period came from long-distance shots.

Okur ended the flurry for a 39-26 Utah lead and it was 50-39 at the half. Utah also set a record for threes in a quarter, with seven. The previous record, five, was accomplished numerous times.

A Miles three-pointer and Boozer layup opened up a 55-39 Jazz lead just over a minute into the second half.

Two Brewer shots from the stripe capped a 7-0 Utah run that gave the Jazz a 66-44 advantage with 7:14 on the clock. Brewer had four of the points and a Williams trey accounted for the other points.

Utah's lead hovered around the high-teens for the rest of the third quarter. Six straight Boozer points to end the stanza gave the Jazz an 82-62 cushion heading into the final frame.

A Korver three and a Matt Harpring jumper gave the Jazz a 24-point lead, however, a 10-0 New Orleans run pulled the Hornets to 87-73 with 9:21 on the clock. Pargo accounted for five of the points, Bobby Jackson drained a three and a Melvin Ely jumper sparked the run.

Moments later, five straight Williams points keyed a 12-3 Jazz run that extended Utah's lead to 20 points, 100-80, with just under five minutes to play.

"The bottom line in the last couple of games is teams are playing harder than we are," Hornets head coach Byron Scott said. "Utah is a more physical team, I thought they were just more physical than we are. They beat us up a little bit, just played a lot better than we did."

Game Notes

New Orleans' Tyson Chandler grabbed 11 rebounds...The Hornets were 10-of-18 from three-point land...Both teams had 39 rebounds...Williams was 3-for-4 on three-point attempts...The previous Utah record for most three-pointers was 13, set on Dec. 7, 1995 against the Denver Nuggets.
