NBA Game Summary - New York at Seattle
(Saturday, February 2nd)
Final Score: Seattle 86, New York 85
Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Kevin Durant scored 21 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer in the last minute, and Nate Robinson's missed three- pointer in the final seconds capped an 0-for-9 night from the field as the Seattle SuperSonics edged the New York Knicks, 86-85.
Chris Wilcox scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Sonics, who have won three straight for the first time this season. Nick Collison had 12 rebounds and nine points off the bench for Seattle.
"We've been playing well, and we've definitely been executing well in the fourth quarter," said Sonics forward Kurt Thomas. "I think that's been the biggest factor, and we've been rebounding the ball."
Zach Randolph scored 24 points for the Knicks, who capped an 0-5 road trip with a heartbreaking loss. Jamal Crawford scored 23 points, and David Lee had 10 points and 10 boards for New York, but Robinson scored only five points on a night when he couldn't make a shot from the field, including the potential game-winner.
The Sonics pushed ahead by six points late in regulation, as two Durant free throws gave them an 80-74 lead with 3:59 remaining. New York chipped away, though, tying the game at 83-83 on a Randolph jumper with 1:20 left.
Durant drained a three with a shade under a minute to play, though, giving the Sonics an 86-83 lead.
Crawford answered, dropping in a floater with 44.7 seconds left to make it a one-point game, and a Durant turnover gave the Knicks the ball with 19.8 seconds left and a shot for the win.
The best shot the Knicks could manage was a contested three by Robinson, though, and he finished his awful night with another miss. Wilcox tipped out the rebound, and Delonte West ran off the final seconds of the win.
"I've never seen a team play that hard for five straight games and have a chance to win each game and come up short every time out," said Crawford. "It shows we've been so close, but we didn't get the wins we desire."
The Knicks held a 38-34 halftime lead in the low-scoring affair, but the Sonics edged in front, 63-61, entering the final 12 minutes.
