Final Score: Boston 106, Chicago 92

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Ray Allen scored 22 points to lead the Boston Celtics in a 106-92 victory over the Chicago Bulls at the United Center.

Kevin Garnett poured in 20 points and swatted four shots for the Celtics, who have won four in a row and remain six games ahead of Detroit for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons defeated the Timberwolves on Tuesday.

Paul Pierce added 17 points in victory. James Posey gave 11 points and seven rebounds, while Rajon Rondo ended with nine points and 10 assists in the win.

Tyrus Thomas totaled a season-high 24 points for the Bulls, who have lost three of four and sit five games behind the Atlanta Hawks for the final spot in the Eastern Conference. Thomas was playing for Drew Gooden, who was sidelined with an abdominal strain and has missed Chicago's last two games.

"We just came out as a team and played hard tonight," Thomas said. "It didn't help us in the playoff race, but we're just trying to make strides."

Andres Nocioni tallied 19 points in defeat, while Luol Deng had 10 points and Kirk Hinrich contributed nine points with five helpers for the Bulls.

The Celtics took a 22-17 lead after the opening 12 minutes.

Boston opened a 50-43 lead at the half.

A Rondo jumper gave the Celtics a 10-point lead, 65-55, with just over seven minutes left in the third quarter.

The teams traded baskets until four free throws from Garnett gave Boston a 73-62 advantage with about 4 1/2 minutes left in the third.

A pair of free throws from Noah brought the Bulls as close as 79-73 heading into the final stanza.

A pair of free throws from Nocioni and a Hinrich jumper brought the Bulls as close as eight points, but five points from Posey and a three-pointer from Allen made it 101-87 with 2:49 left in regulation.

"Teams are trying to figure out what to do. We just hold on," Allen said. "Where we get nothing is when we turn the ball over, just giving it back to them. For the most part we've been in control."
