NBA Game Summary - Chicago at New York

(Sunday, December 30th)

Final Score: Chicago 100, New York 83

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Ben Gordon dropped in 25 points off the bench as Chicago routed a short-handed New York club, 100-83, at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks were without starting guards Jamal Crawford and Stephon Marbury in the game. Crawford was sidelined with a bruised hand while the enigmatic Marbury returned to the team but wasn't in uniform. Marbury has missed nine of the Knicks' last 13 games following the death of his father on December 2.

Luol Deng added 17 points and seven assists for the Bulls, who won their second straight game since Jim Boylan took over as interim coach. Boylan, who was appointed the team's mentor for the remainder of the 2007-08 season Thursday, took over the reigns for Scott Skiles, who was fired on Christmas Eve.

"Everybody is playing relaxed and playing with more confidence," Gordon said. "We are at our best when we are playing together and relaxed. We moved the ball and played an overall good game."

Kirk Hinrich chipped in with 13 points and eight assists for Chicago, while Joe Smith also had 13 points.

Zach Randolph had 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Knicks, who dropped their fourth straight game and lost for the 10th time in their last 12 contests. Nate Robinson finished with 19 points in his first start of the season and Quentin Richardson donated 13 points.

"Starting doesn't matter," Robinson said. "I just like playing basketball. It's tough without those guys (Crawford and Marbury). They are a big part of this team but we have to bounce back and play better no matter what."

The Bulls broke open the game with a 14-2 run to end the third quarter. Ben Wallace fueled the run with a pair of buckets and Gordon finished it with a running jumper at the buzzer as Chicago took a 73-57 advantage heading to the final frame.

The Knicks never seriously threatened in the fourth quarter. The closest New York would come was 13 points, 84-71, after Randolph deposited a bank shot with 5:13 left.

Gordon answered with a three and Smith followed that with a jump hook to give the Bulls a more than comfortable 89-71 advantage with 4:06 left.

Chicago coasted to the finish line from there.

The Bulls scored six straight points to end the first quarter. Deng put back a Gordon miss, Hinrich drained a pair of free throws and Gordon deposited a layup as Chicago took a 30-22 lead after the opening 12 minutes.

The Bulls continued to play frontrunner through the second quarter and took a 50-43 edge into the locker room.

Game Notes

New York is just 7-10 at home this season... The Knicks have gone 3-10 in the games Marbury has missed...Randolph has 15 double-doubles on the season...Chicago stopped a two-game skid at Madison Square Garden.
