Final Score: Utah 120, LA Lakers 96
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Deron Williams scored a career-high 35 points, and Andrei Kirilenko notched a triple-double as the Utah Jazz trounced the Los Angeles Lakers, 120-96, despite missing their starting frontcourt.
Kirilenko scored 20 points, tallied 11 assists, and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Jazz, who have won five of six. Paul Millsap tied a career-high with 20 points and added nine boards for Utah, which won handily despite playing without forward Carlos Boozer and center Mehmet Okur. Boozer sat with a sprained ankle, while Okur missed the game with back spasms.
Kobe Bryant scored 28 points for the Lakers, who saw their brief two-game winning streak come to an end. Jordan Farmar scored 21 points off the bench, and Ronny Turiaf added 12 points for LA.
The Lakers played their second game in a back-to-back set, and beat Denver 127-99 on Thursday.
"There was plenty of time to recover, but we were really slow, ineffective," Lakers head coach Phil Jackson said. "One of my coaches said we were as soft as Dairy Queen ice cream tonight."
The Jazz blew the game wide open early in the second half, leading by as much as 28 points midway through the third quarter. The Utah lead stood at 72-57 after a Bryant fadeaway jumper with 9:41 left in the third quarter, and the Jazz ripped off 13 straight points. Kirilenko opened the run with a jumper, and closed it with two free throws that gave Utah an 85-57 lead with 7:35 to play in the third.
"Andrei Kirilenko was sensational," Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan said. "You can go down the line of guys who played well. We had a tremendous game out of our team the first half. We passed the ball and we tried to help each other defensively. It looked like we were playing basketball and having fun. Andrei was huge in all of that."
Utah led 102-82 entering the fourth quarter, and coasted to the 24-point win.
The Jazz held a 30-22 lead after one quarter of play.
Utah outscored the Lakers by 11 in the second quarter, carving out a 19-point edge by halftime. The Lakers pulled within 58-46 on a Lamar Odom layup with 4:45 left, but Utah outscored LA 12-5 down the stretch.
