NBA Game Summary - Sacramento at Utah
(Friday, January 25th)
Final Score: Utah 127, Sacramento 113
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Carlos Boozer put together a nearly flawless performance, scoring 33 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as the Utah Jazz pulled away in the second half to put away the Sacramento Kings, 127-113, at EnergySolutions Arena.
Boozer shot 15-of-19 from the floor, and Andrei Kirilenko provided a stellar all-around performance with 25 points, six rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots to lead the Jazz to their third straight win and fifth victory in six games.
Deron Williams also added a double-double, scoring 16 points and doling out 14 assists, while Kyle Korver came off the bench to score 15 points in just 20 minutes.
Kevin Martin scored 32 points to pace the Kings, including a perfect 15-of-15 night at the free-throw line, as Sacramento lost for the second straight game after a three-game winning streak. Francisco Garcia scored 13 points off the pine, as six Kings reached double-figures in defeat.
Kings forward Ron Artest scored 15 points, but was ejected with 4:34 left in the fourth quarter after his second technical foul. He was given a technical for trying to get in the face of Utah's Matt Harpring and was then ejected for trying to push Boozer.
"When emotions are high, you've got to be smart about it," Kings coach Reggie Theus said. "You have to make sure you don't get kicked out. He's a warrior. He plays hard and the referees watch him closely."
"He's a physical player, loves competition," Boozer said of Artest. "We gave him plenty of competition tonight. The bad thing about him is sometimes he lets his emotions get the better of him. He couldn't play the last few minutes of the ball game."
Utah controlled the early going, as a Kirilenko three-pointer midway through the first quarter set off a 9-0 burst that gave the Jazz an 18-10 lead late in the period. Sacramento fought back, but Paul Millsap and Boozer scored Utah's last eight points of the quarter as the Jazz ended the first 12 minutes with a 26-23 lead.
Sacramento struck right back at Utah in the second quarter, as Garcia hit a pair of three-pointers to start an 11-2 run that finished with the Kings ahead 42-38 with 6:31 left in the half. But Boozer, who scored 13 points in the half, helped the Jazz pull back in front as the Jazz outscored the Kings 20-10 over the final six minutes of the half to take a 58-52 lead to the locker room.
After the half, Sacramento again charged back into the game, tying the score at 74 after a pair of Brad Miller free throws with 5:41 to go in the third quarter. But Boozer hit a jumper on Utah's next possession and the Jazz went on a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 10-point lead that the Kings could only trim to 95-87 by the start of the fourth quarter.
Though Beno Udrih hit a three-pointer in the first minute of the final period to pull the Kings to within seven, the Jazz slowly pulled away, leading by as many as 15 in the waning minutes as the trio of Boozer, Kirilenko and Williams proved too much for Sacramento to overcome.
Sacramento got to within seven points in the final minutes, but never threatened the Utah lead.
