NBA Game Summary - Utah at Detroit

(Sunday, November 25th)

Final Score: Utah 103, Detroit 93

Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Carlos Boozer scored a season-high 36 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to drive the Utah Jazz to a win over the undermanned Detroit Pistons, 103-93, at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Deron Williams recorded a season-high 14 assists along with 21 points, and Andrei Kirilenko scored 11 and hauled in 10 boards for Utah, which won its third straight. Mehmet Okur chipped in 12 points for the Jazz, who have won five in a row against Detroit.

Antonio McDyess scored 19 and rebounded 12 for the Pistons, who snapped a two- game winning streak. Detroit played without center Rasheed Wallace, who sat out his second game in a row with a sore left knee. In his absence, Jason Maxiell scored 11, and Nazr Mohammed collected a season-high 14 boards.

All five Detroit starters scored in double-figures, but none had more than 20 points.

"There's more of this coming," Boozer said. "When (Williams) and I are both at full strength, we're going to be very tough to beat."

Though, in the early portions of Sunday's game, the Pistons grabbed the lead. In the first quarter, Jarvis Hayes scored all eight of his points in the final 2:30 to help the Pistons lead at the stanza's completion. Hayes' three with 32 seconds left put the Pistons up two, and his jumper gave them a 34-30 lead going into the second.

Detroit grabbed a sizable lead at the outset of the second quarter, when Maxiell's jumper just over three minutes in put the team ahead 39-31.

But Utah regained control over the next nine minutes, and kept it. The Jazz got the lead back when Boozer connected on a jumper with 2:56 left, giving his team a 47-45 edge, and Utah took a 51-48 lead into the break.

Utah kept the same close lead throughout the third quarter, until the tail end of the stanza. McDyess' jumper with under three minutes left, drawing the Pistons within four, at 70-66.

But then the Jazz went on a 9-3 run the rest of the way, thanks to some in- game fireworks and foul shots.

Pistons coach Flip Saunders earned two technical fouls, and was ejected, for arguing a foul call on Tayshaun Prince. Ronnie Brewer made both free throws, and Boozer made two free throws right after to put the Jazz up 74-66.

After Richard Hamilton hit a running jumper for the Pistons, Utah's Jason Hart was fouled by Chauncey Billups and made both free throws. Brewer added another foul shot with 17 seconds left, and Okur made a last-second jumper to put the Jazz up 79-69.

"We got some technicals that kind of got us behind the eight-ball, so to speak. As far as the whistle was concerned, I'm not going to comment on that," Detroit assistant coach Terry Porter said. "It is what it is. Nothing we can do about that. Sometimes from a players' standpoint, we get to complaining sometimes and those guys are taking off and we're not doing a good enough job of getting back and setting our (defense). You can't worry about that at that time."

In the fourth quarter, the Pistons narrowed the Jazz lead down to four points with 4:08 left, when Prince's three made the score 91-87.

But Utah went on a 9-1 run over the next three minutes to pull away. Boozer made two buckets in the span, including the final one on a putback layup, to put the score at 100-88 with just over a minute left.

"I thought we pretty much all did a poor job. I know I feel horrible," Billups said. "I don't think I did a good job of leading us today, starting at the point with my matchup. I think we allowed them to get into a comfort zone with Deron getting in there and getting in the teeth of our defense. They come off pick and rolls and (were) able to throw it back to Boozer, and he wasn't missing jump shots."
