NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Minnesota

(Saturday, November 24th)

Final Score: Atlanta 94, Minnesota 87

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Joe Johnson scored 25 points to help the Atlanta Hawks overcome a 21-point deficit and defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves, 94-87, at the Target Center.

Josh Smith added 16 points and eight rebounds, and Josh Childress tallied 14 for the Hawks, who have won consecutive road games after going winless in their previous 17 as the visitor.

Tyronn Lue recorded 13 points and Marvin Williams had 10 for Atlanta, which is 2-0 on its current three-game road trip after losing three straight overall.

Al Jefferson had 23 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Timberwolves, who have dropped five straight. Marko Jaric added 20 points and Antoine Walker had 12 for Minnesota, which has lost 10 of 11 games this season.

The Timberwolves led 63-45 at halftime, but things began to unravel after that. Just a 12-point third quarter allowed Minnesota to carry only a 75-64 edge into the fourth quarter, where things didn't get any better.

Atlanta began the stanza with seven straight points. Then, trailing 78-73, the Hawks ripped off 14 consecutive points to go ahead for good. Smith scored eight points during the run, which gave Atlanta an 87-78 edge with four minutes to play.

"It was a great third and fourth quarter," said Atlanta head coach Mike Woodson. "I told our guys at halftime that we're not going to beat anybody in this league doing that. We had a great total team effort, holding them to 12 points each quarter."

Minnesota never threatened after that.

"I feel bad because this was one of the games we were supposed to win," said Jaric. "We didn't show character. We were up 21 points and to just lose the game against a team we need to beat, it definitely gives you a sour taste in your mouth."
