NBA Game Summary - Portland at New Orleans

New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Jannero Pargo scored a season-high 24 points off the bench, as the New Orleans Hornets pulled away from Portland to win, 96-81.
Chris Paul finished with 18 points and 10 assists for New Orleans, which has won six in a row. David West had 22 points, while Tyson Chandler pulled down 14 rebounds and had nine points.
LaMarcus Aldridge scored 17 points and had eight boards for Portland, which has alternated wins and losses for the past eight games. Steve Blake made 4- of-9 three-point attempts to finish with 15 points, and Travis Outlaw had 14 points off the bench.
Up by five points in the middle of the fourth quarter, the Hornets went on a 10-2 run, powered by Paul.
He started the surge with a jumper, and ended it with two others. In between were two Pargo buckets. Paul's pull up shot with 1:51 left gave New Orleans an 87-74 lead, and Portland didn't get closer than 10 points again.
"At halftime we came out and played more aggressive. We forced them into making tough plays," Pargo said. "When they missed shots we got on a fast break and made the plays."
Portland jumped on New Orleans in the opening quarter, and had three straight field goals to take a double-digit lead. Brandon Roy had a layup and three back-to-back, and banked in a jumper with 1:44 left to put the Blazers up 23-12.
"In the first quarter I thought we really came out and established ourselves," Portland head coach Nate McMillan said. "I thought we got a little happy with that first quarter effort. But you don't rub anything in anyone's face."
The Hornets stayed close, though, and Paul made a pair of free throws at the tail end of the first to draw his team within 26-20.
New Orleans then scored the first two baskets of the second quarter to get within two, and the Hornets eventually took a 30-29 lead on a Pargo jumper a little less than five minutes in. New Orleans held onto the lead, and had a 48-44 edge at the break.
A West layup with 2:22 remaining in the third quarter gave the Hornets their own double-digit lead, at 65-55. Paul connected on a fadeaway jumper at the end of the stanza, pushing New Orleans' lead to 70-59 heading into the fourth.
Portland scored three straight baskets in the middle of the final stanza to climb back within five, ending with an Aldridge layup. It brought the Blazers within 77-72 with 5:29 left.
Roy finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and six assists...New Orleans shot 47 percent (36-of-77) from the field, while Portland had a 40 percent (30-of-76) mark...The Blazers wrapped up a seven-game road trip with a 3-4 mark.
