NBA Game Summary - Sacramento at Portland
(Friday, November 23rd)
Final Score: Portland 87, Sacramento 84
Portland, OR (Sports Network) - LaMarcus Aldridge scored 28 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and Brandon Roy provided the go-ahead bucket as the Portland Trail Blazers outlasted the Sacramento Kings, 87-84, to snap a five-game losing streak.
After a pair of Jarrett Jack free throws capped an 11-0 run that gave the Blazers an 81-74 lead, Sacramento scratched back with a 10-2 burst of its own, completed by a Kevin Martin three-pointer with 1:15 on the clock.
But Martin missed an open jumper his next time down, and Portland called a timeout with 25.2 seconds on the clock, trailing 84-83. Roy blew past Ron Artest, the Kings' top perimeter defender, then around Brad Miller for a lefty lay-in to put the Blazers up one.
Francisco Garcia was called for a charge at the other end, and Portland finally iced the game with a pair of free throws from Jack - though Miller did force a jump ball on the preceding inbounds that provided Sacramento with one last chance to gain possession.
Roy ended with 13 points and eight assists, while Steve Blake had 13 points.
Martin scored a team-high 21 to lead the Kings, while Artest and Garcia added 17 apiece. Beno Udrih scored 11 points and dished out six assists for Sacramento, which lost its third straight and fell to 0-7 on the road this season.
Sacramento started the game on a 13-3 run, and led 25-24 at the end of the first behind Miller's 11 points.
The Kings continued to front-run for nearly the entire second quarter, leading until Channing Frye's short jumper gave Portland a 42-41 edge with nine seconds on the clock. But Garcia hit a driving scoop shot as the clock expired to reclaim the one-point lead at the half.
Portland led by as many as five during the third, holding a 59-54 lead with 5:25 remaining in the stanza. But Sacramento ran off an 11-3 run to close the quarter, capped by Artest's free throw, to take a 65-62 lead.
A three from Artest with under eight minutes to go gave the Kings a 74-70 cushion before Portland's run.
Artest had 11 rebounds and five assists to go with his 17 points...Portland shot just 16-for-27 (59 percent) from the foul line, but forced 18 turnovers and blocked eight shots.
