NBA Game Summary - Houston at Miami

(Friday, November 23rd)

Final Score: Miami 98, Houston 91

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Dwyane Wade scored a season-high 31 points to pace Miami to its first home win of the season, 98-91, over the Houston Rockets.

Shaquille O'Neal had his best game of the young season with 26 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks for the Heat, who began the campaign 0-5 at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Ricky Davis ended with 12 point sand Udonis Haslem contributed 11 points and eight boards for the Heat, who won for just the third time in 12 games this season.

Wade, who shot 11-of-24 from the field, had seven of Miami's final 10 points.

"We just played team ball tonight and nobody was looking for their own or being selfish," Wade said. "Everybody was playing like we know and normally play and that's what works for us."

Yao Ming and Luis Scola each had 20 points for the Rockets, who also got 19 points from Tracy McGrady. Houston, which shot 5-of-18 from three-point range, suffered its sixth straight defeat.

"It's unfortunate that they had their breakout game against us tonight," McGrady said. "Both of those guys (Wade, O'Neal) played superbly, especially Shaq. He set a tone right away from the start and was consistent the whole ball game."

Scola's jumper pulled Houston within 88-86 with 3:09 remaining, but Wade countered with a jumper.

After a McGrady free throw, the Heat pulled away. Wade nailed a jumper from the left corner and leaned into Shane Battier to pick up the foul. Wade completed the three-point play with 2:26 left for the 93-87 advantage.

After McGrady and Scola missed shots, Haslem nailed a jumper to the left of the foul line with 1:12 remaining to seal the victory.

The Heat started the game on a 6-0 run and led 15-4 early following a free throw from O'Neal with 7:08 left in the quarter. However, Houston rallied, taking a 20-19 lead on a reverse layup from Rafer Alston. It was 26-24 Heat after the period.

Miami was in front by as many as seven in the second before settling for a 50-49 halftime lead. It was tight throughout the third until the Heat broke away for a 74-67 advantage going into the fourth.
