NBA Game Summary - Orlando at Houston
(Wednesday, December 19th)
Final Score: Orlando 97, Houston 92
Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Dwight Howard poured in 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, and Orlando played stellar defense in a 97-92 victory over the Houston Rockets.
All five Magic players scored in double figures and Keyon Dooling came off the bench for 15 more, as Orlando snapped a two-game skid and beat the Rockets for just the fourth time in the last 14 meetings.
Yao Ming tallied 19 points and 17 rebounds for the Rockets, who shot a season- low 34.1 percent. Tracy McGrady, who had three points on 1-of-10 shooting, departed the game with a sore left knee. He did not play the second half.
"Doctors, coaches and trainers saw how I was moving out there and decided to shut me down," McGrady said. "Playing on one leg like that when you're putting so much pressure on that leg, the leg that feels good, there is a chance that you can injure that leg. And that basically is why they decided to take me out of the ball game."
Bonzi Wells and Rafer Alston each chipped in 17 points for the Rockets, losers in four of their last five games.
Alston's two free throws had Houston within 93-92 with 12.9 seconds left, but Dooling made a pair from the charity stripe less than a second later.
Luther Head then missed a shot just inside the three-point line and Turkoglu got the rebound, and nailed two free throws with under a second remaining to seal the victory.
Keith Bogans had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Magic, who also got 13 points apiece from Rashard Lewis and Turkoglu, and 11 from Jameer Nelson.
Houston ran out to a 16-5 lead and carried a 22-15 advantage going into the second quarter.
Three-pointers from Alston and Shane Battier, and a jam from Wells moved the Houston advantage to 37-27 with 7:32 left in the half. However, the Magic came back with the next 15 points, pushing ahead on a Nelson layup. Howard's two free throws capped the burst with 2:31 left in the quarter and it was 44-40 at the half in favor of the Magic.
Orlando stretched its lead to 55-46 midway through the third following a Maurice Evans three-pointer and it was 71-62 going into the fourth.
Orlando led by as many as 13 in the final quarter, but its 89-80 advantage with 2:40 left was nearly erased.
After the game, Lewis admitted he wasn't feeling well.
"Terrible, I still can't turn my head to the right," Lewis said. "I'll get an MRI tomorrow and hopefully they'll find out what's going on because it's killing me."
Turkoglu also had nine rebounds...The Magic shot 41 percent from the field...The Rockets missed 10 of their 31 foul shots.
