NBA Game Summary - Phoenix at Sacramento

(Tuesday, November 20th)

Final Score: Phoenix 100, Sacramento 98

Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Amare Stoudemire swatted John Salmons' game- winning three-point attempt just before the buzzer, as Phoenix slipped past Sacramento, 100-98, at ARCO Arena.

Stoudemire recorded a double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds, Leandro Barbosa added 22 points and Steve Nash donated 14 points and dished out 12 assists in the win. Grant Hill added 19 points for the Suns, who improved to 5-1 on the road this season in their sixth straight victory.

Ron Artest scored a game-high 33 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, while Kevin Martin struggled from the floor but managed 15 points for the Kings, who saw their brief two-game winning streak come to an end.

Artest's jumper tied the game at 94-94 with 3:07 to play, but Stoudemire scored the next six points -- four from the charity stripe -- for a 100-94 edge with 1:35 on the clock.

Salmons and Artest both converted layups to draw the Kings within two points with 44 ticks left. Stoudemire then left the door open by missing two free throws, but Artest's game-tying attempt from inside the arc misfired with eight seconds left, and Nash threw a perfect outlet pass to Barbosa, who was set to cruise in for a game-clinching layup.

However, the guard lost the handle and kicked the ball out of bounds with 3.4 seconds left. The Kings had one last chance, but Salmons' heave from deep atop the left circle was blocked by a lunging Stoudemire to persevere the victory.

Phoenix held a 27-26 lead after one stanza and a 55-47 advantage at the half. The lead ballooned to 72-55 midway through the third stanza on the heels of an 11-0 spurt. Nash capped the stretch with a three-pointer off the break.

Boris Diaw's jumper later in the period extended the edge to 86-67, but Sacramento scored the final seven points to draw within 86-74. The Kings drew even late in the fourth before Phoenix pulled out the victory.
