NBA Game Summary - Seattle at Utah
(Saturday, December 15th)
Final Score: Utah 96, Seattle 75
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Carlos Boozer poured in 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds as the Utah Jazz snapped a six-game losing streak with a 96-75 romp over the Seattle SuperSonics at EnergySolutions Arena.
Deron Williams had 18 points to go with 10 assists and Ronnie Brewer chipped in 18 of his own while picking up five steals. Andrei Kirilenko finished with 16 points and five blocked shots for Utah, playing without starting center Mehmet Okur, who was out with a shoulder injury for the third straight game.
Wally Szczerbiak went for 24 points off the Seattle bench, but no Sonics starter scored in double figures, with Chris Wilcox and Nick Collison (eight points apiece) the high scorers among the starting five.
Seattle, which got 10 points off the bench from Luke Ridnour, had a two-game win streak snapped, but has still won four of its last seven overall.
An early Sonics lead was quickly erased by a dominant second quarter from Utah, and the Jazz put the game away by holding Seattle to a scant nine points in the final quarter.
The Sonics shot a dismal 26-for-79 (33 percent) from the floor on the night, and committed 19 turnovers.
"We got the start we wanted," said Sonics head coach P.J. Carlesimo. "But we played like we were playing our fifth game in seven nights. They had more energy than we did. In the first quarter we were pretty good...but we weren't able to sustain it. We played tired."
Seattle used an 11-0 run to go up 25-15 and led 27-20 after the first. The Sonics led 31-22 after Ridnour's jumper with just under 10 minutes to go in the half, but Utah embarked on a 29-9 tear to close the half, and led 51-40.
The Jazz threatened to pull away early in the third, extending the lead to as many as 16 before Seattle used a 10-4 spurt to pull back within 72-62, and then trailed just 76-66 going to the fourth.
Utah finally pulled away midway through the final quarter, as Kirilenko's bucket off a dish from Williams made it 85-69 with just over six minutes to go, and the Sonics never got closer than 14 the rest of the way.
Utah recorded 15 steals as a team, led by Brewer's five and Paul Millsap's four...The Jazz are now 9-2 at home on the season, and will now embark on a four-game road swing to Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando and Miami...Seattle was without forward Kurt Thomas, who was a late scratch, and guard Delonte West, who has missed the past two games with a foot injury...Sonics rookie forward Kevin Durant scored just six points on 3-of-11 shooting.
