(Friday, December 14th)

Final Score: LA Clippers 98, Memphis 91

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Chris Kaman scored 23 and hauled in 16 rebounds to help the Los Angeles Clippers beat the struggling Memphis Grizzlies, 98-91, at FedExForum.

Corey Maggette also scored 23, and Cuttino Mobley had 17 points with six assists for Los Angeles, which has alternated wins and losses for the past five games.

Mike Miller scored 23 for Memphis, which lost its sixth in a row. Hakim Warrick scored 20 before fouling out, and Rudy Gay chipped in 12 points.

Memphis drew within five when Gay made a pair of free throws with 33 seconds left in the game. But Los Angeles, which had been ahead by nine points multiple times in the fourth quarter, pulled away for good.

Quinton Ross made a layup to put the Clippers ahead six, and Maggette came down with the rebound off a Juan Carlos Navarro miss from beyond the arc. Maggette was fouled and made both free throws with 20 seconds on the clock, giving Los Angeles a 98-89 lead, and effectively icing the game.

Maggette also propelled the Clippers in the first quarter, when he scored 10 points to help them take an early advantage. Warrick scored nine for Memphis, but Los Angeles led 24-19 after 12 minutes.

The Clippers extended the lead to 28-19 after Mobley banked in a shot less than two minutes into the second quarter. The lead held for most of the stanza, as Los Angeles was still ahead by eight with 3:40 remaining before half.

But three straight baskets, one by Warrick and two by Damon Stoudamire brought the Grizzlies within two points. Warrick, who also scored nine in the second quarter, then made a pair of free throws right before halftime to bring Memphis within 46-44.

The game remained tight in the third quarter, as no team led by more than five, and Los Angeles led 68-66 going into the fourth quarter.

The Clippers extended their lead shortly into the final stanza, when Al Thornton's jumper gave Los Angeles a 78-70 edge. However, the Clippers couldn't pull away. Memphis never trimmed its deficit to less than five, and Los Angeles never got its lead to more than nine.
