NBA Game Summary - Charlotte at Detroit
(Sunday, December 9th)
Final Score: Detroit 104, Charlotte 85
Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Chauncey Billups scored 20 points and Antonio McDyess added 19 points in Detroit's 104-85 pounding of the Charlotte Bobcats.
Richard Hamilton contributed 18 points for the Pistons, who have won six of their last seven games.
"We jumped on them right away and didn't give them any kind of light to come back," McDyess said. "They did come back in the third quarter, but we put the foot back on the gas and kept going."
Jason Richardson tallied 15 points and Emeka Okafor 14 for the Bobcats, who have lost eight of their last nine contests.
"We ran out of gas way before the second half, we ran out of gas in the first five minutes of the game," Charlotte coach Sam Vincent said. "Right now it is tough for us in back-to-back situations because we just don't have depth. To play a tough game last night and win that game against Cleveland last night and then to get on a plane and come here to Detroit and play a good team is tough."
The Pistons used a 16-2 run in the opening quarter to blow the game open. Primoz Brezec's jumper tied the game for the Bobcats at eight, but Rasheed Wallace countered with a jumper to start Detroit's flurry. McDyess had six points during the run, culminating it with a dunk with 2 1/2 minutes left in the quarter.
Detroit led 30-16 going into the second and continued to lead by double digits throughout the second, on the way to a 56-45 halftime cushion.
Charlotte pulled within 57-52 early in the third following a driving layup by Raymond Felton, but the Pistons countered with an 8-2 spurt, capped by a pair of free throws from Billups.
The advantage stood at 81-65 going into the fourth and the Pistons remained comfortably ahead the rest of the way, leading by as many as 22 points.
Felton had 12 points and Walter Hermann had 10 for the Bobcats, who shot 43 percent from the field...Jason Maxiell had 11 points for Detroit, which held a 47-29 rebounding advantage...The Pistons moved to 5-0 against Southeast Division opponents this season...Detroit has won seven of the last nine meetings.
