NBA Game Summary - New Orleans at LA Lakers

(Tuesday, November 6th)

Final Score: New Orleans 118, LA Lakers 104

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Peja Stojakovic sunk a career-high 10 three-pointers and ended with 36 points, as the New Orleans Hornets downed the Los Angeles Lakers, 118-104, at Staples Center.

David West added 22 points and eight rebounds for the Hornets, who improved to 4-0 on the young season.

"We are off to a good start but we have 78 games to go," Stojakovic said. "We have a very talented team and hopefully we can stay healthy and just keep playing. Hopefully we can improve our game over the season and get even better."

Chris Paul was sensational in leading New Orleans' offensive attack with 19 points and dishing out a career-best 21 assists. Tyson Chandler contributed 10 points and nine boards while Rasual Butler donated 11 points in the victory.

Kobe Bryant poured in 28 points, had seven assists and six rebounds for the Lakers, who were looking to win their third straight contest.

Ronny Turiaf had 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting in the loss and also ripped down seven rebounds.

Leading by one point at halftime, New Orleans went into the final frame up 89-80 as Stojakovic erupted for 17 points in the third quarter. The Serbian swingman was lethal from beyond the arc in the frame, draining five three- pointers.

"You don't normally let a guy like that (Stojakovic) catch the ball when he is going like that," said Bryant. "It is a lesson for us to learn from."

The Hornets continued to run in front in the fourth quarter and went up 108-96 with 3:07 to play after Paul completed a three-point play after being fouled inside and Stojakovic followed with a trey.

Back-to-back three-pointers from West and Stojakovic then sealed the victory for the Hornets as their lead grew to 16 with just over a minute to play in the contest.

New Orleans led by 10 points at the end of the opening quarter, but the Lakers got back into the game in the second stanza and trailed 57-55 at the break.

Stojakovic paced the Hornets with 13 points in the first half while Bryant had 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field.
