NBA Game Summary - New Jersey at Detroit

(Sunday, December 2nd)

Final Score: Detroit 118, New Jersey 95

Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Jason Maxiell had 18 points and 11 rebounds while Chauncey Billups added 18 points and nine assists to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 118-95 rout of the New Jersey Nets at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Richard Hamilton registered 19 points, Jarvis Hayes added 14, and Antonio McDyess 12 for the Pistons, who have won five of their last six games.

"I thought as a team we really functioned well," said Pistons head coach Flip Saunders. "You play a game where you score 118 points and the most shots taken by a guy is 12, that's pretty impressive."

Vince Carter scored a game-high 22 points and Richard Jefferson added 21 for the Pistons, who had won four of their previous five games. Jason Kidd dished out a season-high 16 assists in the loss.

Maxiell came off the bench and scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds, six offensive, in the first half to help the Pistons take a 54-44 halftime lead.

The Pistons came out hot early in the third quarter, hitting their first seven shots. McDyess' jumper with 7:21 left in the frame gave Detroit a 70-54 lead.

Carter attempted to keep the Nets in the game scoring 13 third quarter points, but New Jersey simply could not stop Detroit. The Pistons were able to build their lead to 87-67 at the end of three quarters.

Detroit led by as many as 25 points in the fourth and cruised to an easy win.

"We were playing against a very good team in Detroit and at the end of the third quarter, 10 goes to 20 and that was pretty much it," Kidd said. "We didn't have any answers and it seemed like they made every shot, of if they didn't make it, they got the offensive rebound and that put us in the hole."

The game was tied 27-27 after the opening 12 minutes.

The Pistons were able to blow out the Nets on the strength of 56.3 percent shooting.
