NBA Game Summary - Seattle at Phoenix

(Thursday, January 3rd)

Final Score: Phoenix 104, Seattle 96

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Amare Stoudemire exploded for 34 points with 11 rebounds and Steve Nash posted 17 points with 10 assists, as Phoenix dug out of a large first-quarter hole to down Seattle, 104-96.

Shawn Marion donated 11 points with 14 rebounds, Leandro Barbosa added 16 points off the bench and Raja Bell notched 11 points with six boards for Phoenix, which opened a four-game homestand with its fourth straight win at home and overall.

Kevin Durant made 11-of-24 shots for 28 points with seven rebounds and Earl Watson filled the stat sheet with a season-high 20 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Jeff Green and Kurt Thomas each scored 14 points with Thomas also grabbing 12 rebounds for Seattle, which has lost four of five and six of eight.

The game looked like a Seattle rout in the first period as the SuperSonics opened a 33-13 edge. The lead was just 9-7 after a Nash jumper, but Seattle reeled off the next 10 points capped by Durant's jumper and rolled to a 29-11 advantage on the heels of Watson's three-point play near the end of the period.

Phoenix completely turned the tables in the second, outscoring Seattle 30-12 to cut the deficit to 45-43 at the half. A 7-0 stretch late in the onslaught slashed Seattle's lead to 43-37 after Nash buried a three and Grant Hill converted a reverse layup.

The Suns continued to pour it on in the third. After Green cut Seattle's deficit to 65-63 late in the period, Phoenix tallied the final seven points -- five on Barbosa free throws -- to push the edge to 72-63 with 12 minutes to go.

Seattle got within 98-94 with 1:25 on the clock following buckets by Durant and Green, and then again at 100-96 following an exchange of two-point possessions, but Stoudemire made a jump shot with 33 ticks to play then Durant fumbled the ball away to end any hope of a comeback.
