NBA Game Summary - Memphis at Portland

(Thursday, March 29th)

Final Score: Memphis 96, Portland 92

Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Tarence Kinsey poured in 20 points as Memphis edged Portland, 96-92, at the Rose Garden.

Hakim Warrick scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Rudy Guy also added 18 points for the Grizzlies, who have won two in a row. Pau Gasol chipped in 17 points and eight boards in the victory.

"It feels good," Gasol said. "We played real well offensively and defensively. We have to hustle on defense and play the tough zone how we have been. The young guys played really well. That's what it's going to take."

Memphis finished 39.7 percent shooting from the field.

Zach Randolph posted a career-high 43 points and pulled down 17 rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who have dropped three straight games. Brandon Roy and Travis Outlaw each had 13 points in defeat.

"We had too many guys not making plays tonight," Roy said. "We've got to keep fighting and trying to win as many games as possible. It's been a long season but I've dealt with it pretty well."

Portland shot 43.9 percent from the floor but missed all 11 of its three-point attempts.

Trailing by three entering the fourth quarter, Portland fired back and took its biggest lead of the game, 81-75, on Outlaw's jumper at the 6:33 mark. However, the Grizzlies responded with a 6-0 spurt to knot it at 81 and things went back and forth for the next few minutes.

After Randolph's layup made it 90-90 with 1:10 remaining, Kinsey buried a jump shot and Warrick hit a driving hook shot for a 94-90 edge with 9.3 seconds to play.

Randolph then made a layup to cut it to two, but Warrick drained both from the line to ice the contest.

With the game tied at 24 entering the second quarter, Memphis, down by two, embarked on a 9-0 run -- capped by Gasol's driving hook shot -- for a 39-32 lead with 5:20 left.

Chucky Atkins then drained two free throws to open up a 10-point Grizzlies advantage, but Portland ended the frame with six straight points to cut within 50-46 at halftime.

Memphis held the Trail Blazers at arm's length throughout the third quarter and went into the final frame up 69-66.
