NBA Game Summary - New Orleans/Okla City at Phoenix

(Friday, March 9th)

Final Score: Phoenix 104, New Orleans/Okla City 103

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Amare Stoudemire poured in 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Phoenix survived a late scare and held off New Orleans/Oklahoma City, 104-103, at US Airways Center.

Leandro Barbosa donated 19 points off the bench and Raja Bell added 17 for the Suns, who have won four in a row and nine of their last 10. Steve Nash posted 15 points and dished out 10 assists, while Boris Diaw had 14 points and nine boards.

Phoenix shot 46.5 percent from the field.

Devin Brown and David West each chipped in 19 points for the Hornets, who have lost four straight games. Jannero Pargo had 15 and Chris Paul netted 14 points with seven rebounds in defeat.

The Suns appeared to have the game in hand after Barbosa's trey made it 103-93 with 3:19 to play. New Orleans, however, went on a 10-1 spurt -- ended with Paul's driving layup with 30 seconds left -- but that's as close as it got.

West's desperation jumper fell short at the buzzer.

With the game tied at 14, Phoenix ripped off a 7-0 run for a seven-point lead, and later, extended it to 29-20 on James Jones' three-pointer. New Orleans then cut within 34-29 on Bobby Jackson's layup at the end of the first quarter.

The Hornets kept it close in the second, and Paul's late layup closed the gap to 55-54 at the break.

The Suns led by as many as seven in the third quarter, but New Orleans tied it, 76-76, when Paul buried a triple with 2:05 left. Shawn Marion, though, hit a running jumper at the buzzer and Phoenix entered the fourth up by two.

The Hornets finished 48 percent shooting in the game.
