Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Tracy McGrady scored a game-high 25 points to lead six Rockets in double figures as Houston routed Boston, 111-80, at TD Banknorth Garden.
Shane Battier collected 15 points, Rafer Alston and Chuck Hayes contributed 14 points apiece, Juwan Howard added 12 and Yao Ming donated 11 for the Rockets, who snapped a two-game skid. Hayes also pulled down 11 rebounds, helping Houston take the battle on the backboards, 43-39.
"It was a game that we had to win and we came out with a great deal of energy," said McGrady.
Paul Pierce and Al Jefferson scored 20 points apiece for the Celtics, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end. No other Boston player reached double figures.
The Rockets were in control from almost the very beginning, taking the lead at 6-5 on Hayes' layup and never looking back.
A 30-22 lead after one stanza quickly became 41-24 on Howard's layup with 9:50 left in the half.
The Rockets led 62-49 at the break.
Hayes converted a layup, Alston connected on a three and Yao knocked down a turnaround right out of the half for a 69-49 lead.
Boston cut the deficit to 72-59 on a pair of Kendrick Perkins free throws with 6:49 left, but Houston quickly recaptured total control at 86-61, capping an 11-0 stretch.
An Alston free throw, Battier's back-to-back threes, McGrady's alley-oop layup and Hayes' baby hook completed the damage.
The Rockets held a 93-68 advantage after three. Both clubs muddled their way through the fourth, combining for just 30 points.
Houston made 15-of-28 from beyond the arc, including 5-of-11 from Battier. In turn, Boston made just 1-of-9 from long distance...Boston committed 20 turnovers to 18 for Houston...Attendance was 17,004...Houston's Dikembe Mutumbo will have an MRI on his left knee Thursday after aggravating it during the fourth quarter...Boston's Delonte West is staying overnight at a Boston area hospital to have a precautionary CT-scan after taking an elbow to the head in the first half. He was diagnosed with a concussion.
