NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Utah
(Monday, February 12th)
Final Score: Utah 102, Atlanta 76
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Mehmet Okur scored 19 points to lead the Utah Jazz to a 102-76 thumping of the road-weary Atlanta Hawks at EnergySolutions Arena.
Derek Fisher added 14 points and Paul Millsap had 13 points and nine rebounds for Utah, which has won five straight games. Andrei Kirilenko and Matt Harpring each scored 11 for the Jazz, who are yet to lose on their four-game homestand that concludes Wednesday against Cleveland.
"We haven't had a blow out in a while, so it was definitely good to get some rest, and get some guys some minutes," Utah's Deron Williams said. "We defended them pretty well tonight, and made it tough for them to get shots in the first half."
Marvin Williams ended with 15 points to lead Atlanta, which had a two-game win streak snapped and fell to 2-1 on its five-game road trip. Joe Johnson was held to just 14 points as the Hawks lost to Utah for the ninth straight time.
"It's one of those nights where we couldn't really get our offense going and everything was pretty stagnant," Atlanta's Josh Childress said. "They came out as the aggressor and took it to us early."
The last time Atlanta beat Utah was on October 31, 2002. The Hawks have also lost 13 in a row in Utah, last winning here on February 13, 1993.
The Jazz wasted little time jumping on the Hawks. Down 8-7 in the early going, Kirilenko and Gordan Giricek spearheaded a 15-3 run that gave their club a 22-10 lead. The duo combined for 12 points during the run, which was capped by a Deron Williams three-pointer that allowed the Jazz to cruise into the second with a 23-13 lead.
Utah opened things up a bit at the end of the second quarter, scoring 16 of the final 23 points to coast into halftime with a 50-32 advantage. Okur scored seven of the 16 points for the Jazz, who continued to pressure in the third.
The Jazz lead reached 20 for the first time early in the third after Okur hit a pair of free throws for a 56-36 lead. Later, a 17-5 surge by Utah turned an 18-point lead into a 30-point advantage, 77-47 and the Jazz went into the fourth with a 79-50 lead.
The final 12 minutes was much of the same as Atlanta never threatened.
Atlanta fell to 1-13 at the Delta Center...Utah outboarded the Hawks 52-32...The Jazz hit 32-of-36 free throws...Atlanta hit just 1-of-6 three- pointers compared to 6-of-13 for the Jazz...The Hawks also had just 10 assists, while the Jazz had 24.
