NBA Game Summary - Boston at Seattle
(Sunday, December 31st)
Final Score: Seattle 101, Boston 95
Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Chris Wilcox scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Seattle SuperSonics over the Boston Celtics, 101-95, at KeyArena.
"I got to go out and play hard and give the same effort and the same intensity level every night, I got to play the same game," said Wilcox. "I think tonight helped us out going into a new year, hopefully things can just turn around for us on the road."
Damien Wilkins added 20 points and Luke Ridnour had 17 points and 11 assists for the Sonics, who ended a two-game slide. Ray Allen had 15 points for Seattle, which has won three of its last five contests.
Tony Allen had 23 points and Al Jefferson tallied 21 points with 10 boards for the Celtics, who have dropped six in a row. Gerald Green had 18 points for Boston, which continues to miss injured forward Paul Pierce.
Ahead 57-51 midway through the third quarter, the Sonics pulled away for good thanks to a 12-0 run. Wilcox scored the final five points of the surge, capping it with a three-point play with 4:31 left.
Seattle carries a 76-59 lead into the fourth quarter and held on down the stretch for the win. Despite the close final score, Boston never had a chance to tie or take the lead.
"It was bad energy to start the game," said Boston's Wally Szczerbiak. "What's this the 3rd or 4th straight game we've put ourselves down (double digits) in the first quarter? You're just fighting an uphill battle. We've got to figure out a way to come out better and start games much better and not put ourselves behind the 8-ball because on the road you fight back like that all game, it's not easy."
Seattle led for most of the contest, carrying a 27-18 lead after one quarter and a 48-39 advantage into halftime.
Pierce has missed the last five games...The Sonics have won three straight in this series...This was the first meeting of this season between these two clubs.
