NBA Game Summary - Utah at Golden State
(Saturday, November 25th)
Final Score: Golden State 91, Utah 78
Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Matt Barnes scored 17 of his career-best 24 points in the third quarter and Monta Ellis added 21, as Golden State used a balanced attack to beat Utah, 91-78, slowing the Jazz's best start in franchise history.
Troy Murphy contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Andris Biedrins had 14 points and 17 boards, as the Warriors snapped a three-game skid and made a remarkable defensive turnaround after losing, 140-129, at Denver on Friday.
"We've just got to go out and play this way every night," Ellis said. "If we do, we'll be a tough team to compete with every night and it just lets us know we do what the coach wants us to do, run the ball and do what we've been doing when we got off to a great start on our five game winning streak and we can win a lot of games this season."
Matt Harpring had 15 points and Deron Williams scored 14 and dished out eight assists for the Jazz, who had their eight-game winning streak broken and fell to 12-2 on the season.
"We're not going to win every game and the Warriors, you've got to give them credit, they played well tonight and we didn't shoot the ball too well," Harpring said. "We just didn't hit shots tonight. We were getting wide open looks, the ball just wasn't going in for us. I think you have to give them credit for winning the game and having a game plan like that, but I think we beat ourselves tonight."
The Jazz shot just 32.5 percent and both of their defeats this season have come when they scored under 100 points. They also lost, 96-89, at New Jersey on November 8.
The Warriors used a dominating third quarter to grab a 73-59 advantage going into the fourth. A Williams three-pointer brought the Jazz within 50-49, but the Warriors scored 15 in a row. A pair of free throws by Biedrins made it 65-49 with 5:07 left in the period.
Jason Richardson's jumper extended the margin to 84-64 and Golden State coasted the rest of the way.
Richardson ended with 13 points, as the Warriors shot 40.4 percent from the floor.
Derek Fisher scored 12 for Utah.
Golden State led 27-14 after one quarter, but the Jazz rallied to close within 53-52 the half.
