NBA Game Summary - Chicago at Toronto
(Friday, December 29th)
Final Score: Chicago 107, Toronto 97
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Luol Deng poured in 25 points and Ben Gordon had 22 as Chicago picked up its 15th consecutive win over Toronto with a 107-97 victory over the Raptors at the Air Canada Centre.
Deng grabbed seven rebounds, while Gordon dished out six assists for the red- hot Bulls, who have won 15 of their last 18 games after starting the year 3-9.
Kirk Hinrich tallied 16 points and Chris Duhon added 12 points and seven assists for Chicago, which has won seven straight in Toronto. Hinrich, though, suffered a strained left groin in the fourth quarter.
T.J. Ford had 20 points and six assists, but turned the ball over seven times for the Raptors, who have dropped two of three.
Joey Graham scored 17 points for Toronto, while top-pick Andrea Bargnani added 16 off the bench.
With the Bulls holding a 21-19 advantage near the end of the first quarter, a pair of Bargnani three's sandwiched a Graham layup to put Toronto up 27-22.
The Raptors held a 32-26 lead after the first quarter before Chicago began to assume command in the second quarter. Down 37-30, the Bulls embarked on a 10-0 run to take a 40-37 lead with 5:52 left in the half. Mike Sweetney led the way for Chicago, scoring six points during the burst.
Graham's reverse layup brought the Raptors within 44-42, but Chicago closed the half out with a 10-4 spurt to take a 54-46 lead into the break.
"We played a good first quarter, after that in the second quarter we stopped moving the ball," said Bargnani. "Their defense made it difficult to move the ball."
An 8-0 Raptors' run, capped by Graham's three-point play with 5:27 left to play in the third, brought Toronto within 65-64, but the Bulls closed the quarter strong and took a 82-75 lead into the fourth.
Chicago led by as much as 17 in the final quarter before Toronto rallied to make it a game. A 14-3 run, capped by a Morris Peterson three-pointer with 2:38 left in the game, brought Toronto within 101-95.
However, Ben Wallace muscled up a layup at the other end for the Bulls. With a chance at a three-point play, Wallace's free throw rimmed out, but P.J. Brown collected the rebound and dropped in two from the charity stripe to ice the game.
"Most of the games with (Toronto) have been tough," said Duhon. "We had to pull them out in the last two minutes. We got their number, I guess."
