NBA Game Summary - Orlando at Miami
(Friday, November 24th)
Final Score: Orlando 107, Miami 104
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Dorell Wright released a miraculous potential game-tying shot a fraction of a second too late, and the Orlando Magic pulled out a 107-104 win over the Miami Heat. The shot was an unfortunate end to an otherwise great night for Wright, who pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds and scored 12 points.
The Heat had one final chance to tie the game with 0.4 seconds remaining on the clock. Jason Kapono tried to throw the inbound pass to Wright, who was uncovered in the corner, but Grant Hill was able tip the pass. Wright reached out to grab the deflected pass and uncorked a fadeaway jumper that found the net, but the clock, which had started at Hill's deflection, expired just before the ball left his hands.
Hill and Wright both missed the back end of their free throw opportunities in the last 20 seconds to allow the Heat their one last chance.
Dwyane Wade finished with 33 points and 15 assists, but was unable to hit the shot that mattered most, a free-throw line fadeaway that he airballed with three seconds left that would have tied the game. The Heat have lost three in a row and six of seven.
Hill posted a clutch effort, scoring 24 points, 12 in the fourth quarter, to lead Orlando to its second win in a row, and its sixth in seven games. Dwight Howard scored 23 and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Magic. Jameer Nelson scored 14 points, and Darko Milicic added 11 points and eight rebounds off of the bench.
All five starters scored in double figures for Miami, including Alonzo Mourning and Kapono, first-time starters on the season, who scored 17 and 15, respectively. Udonis Haslem scored 19 and pulled down eight rebounds for Miami.
Wade had drilled a jumper from just inside the three-point line at the top of the key to tie the game at 100-100 with 2:06 remaining. The shot capped an 11-3 run that erased a deficit that had stood at 97-89 with 4:39 left in the game.
The in-state rivals traded baskets for much of the third quarter. A three- point play by Howard put the Magic up 78-74 with just over one minute left in the quarter. An Antoine Walker basket and two Wright free throws sent the game into the final quarter knotted at 78-78.
The Heat scored six straight to open the second quarter, capped by an Earl Barron jumper that put Miami up 29-24 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half. The Magic would re-take the lead, and a Trevor Ariza lay-up gave Orlando a 38-32 lead with 5:41 left in the first half.
Wade led the Heat back, hitting four free throws in the final minute of the second quarter to put Miami up 47-46. Nelson had the last laugh in the first half, though, drilling a jumper with seven seconds left to send Orlando into the half with a 48-47 advantage.
The Heat have gone 1-4 without Shaquille O'Neal, who is sidelined with a knee injury...Kapono had hit one three-pointer all season before Friday night. He hit all three he attempted against the Magic...Wade's 15 assists were a career-high...Howard's double-double was the 100th of his career...The last time the Heat lost four in a row at home was in March in 2003, when they lost six in a row in Miami.
