NBA Game Summary - Houston at Detroit
(Saturday, November 18th)
Final Score: Detroit 104, Houston 92
Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Richard Hamilton poured in a season-high 30 points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out eight assists as Detroit used a dominating fourth quarter to best Houston, 104-92, at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
"I'm just trying to be aggressive and make things happen," said Hamilton. "We can't wait to get into a rhythm."
Detroit was down by two points entering the final frame but doubled up the Rockets 28-14 in the stanza. The key stretch was a 17-2 burst, capped by a long Chauncey Billups three, that put the Pistons on top, 98-85, with 2:50 left.
Houston could not recover from there and went down to defeat for the second time in three games.
Billups netted 23 points and doled out nine helpers for the Pistons, who won their second straight outing and beat the Rockets for the sixth straight time in Detroit. Tayshaun Prince netted 15 points while Rasheed Wallace had 15 and 11 rebounds.
"It was a good win," said Billups. "Especially in a back-to-back situation it was outstanding. We're playing with the right intensity. Even if we're not playing that good, if we play hard we'll win most games with this group of guys."
Yao Ming scored a game-high 33 points and pulled down 16 boards but had eight turnovers for the Rockets, who lost for just the second time in seven games. Tracy McGrady tallied 24 points for Houston while Shane Battier had nine.
"I'm very disappointed," said McGrady. "Especially since we talked about it. We all know what the problem is. It's been the same thing all the time. We gave ourselves a good chance to win on the road against a quality team, but we lost it in the fourth quarter."
The Pistons held a slim 24-23 advantage after the opening 12 minutes but Houston bounced back to lead by two, 52-50, at intermission.
Things remained nip and tuck through the third with Houston taking a 78-76 edge into the final frame.
The teams will play once more during the regular season. The Pistons are scheduled to host the Rockets on March 22nd at the Toyota Center in Houston...The Rockets are now 3-3 on the road this season. They will visit the New York Knicks on Monday at Madison Square Garden.
